Term 3 Newsletter

30 September 2022

Dear Rabie Family

We have come to the end of term three very swiftly and are now in the last stretch of the year. It is once again a privilege to communicate with you as valued parents and guardians.

Staff news

Appointment of two new educators

At the end of term 2, Mr. Aldo Oosthuizen and Mrs. Ineke Ferreira ended their service at Rabie. We are extremely grateful to these two educators for the excellent and loyal service rendered to the school. These two positions were filled by two new educators at the start of term 3. Mrs. Odette Moodaley was appointed in the position of Mr. Oosthuizen while Mrs. Talitha NisckOlkers was appointed as replacement for Mrs. Ferreira. Both have quickly found their feet and are now very happy to be part of the Rabie family.

Stork visits Rabie

Last term we had two weddings on the staff and this term we are delighted to announce two pregnancies. Ms. Chanel Badenhorst will go on maternity leave at the end of the year whilst one of our secretaries, Mrs. Simoné Knoetze, is expecting her little one to arrive early in the new year. We wish them and their families well during these exciting times!

Bereavement

9 September 2022 was a very sad day at our school. We are still struggling to come to terms with the passing of one of our grade 11 learners, Neville Viviers. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones. Our wish is that God will be a source of strength and encouragement to them during these trying times.

Communication

As part of our vision, we would like to remain relevant and up to date with present day technological advances. Currently our traditional means of communication presents a lot of challenges. To improve our communication with our parents, guardians as well as the broader
school community we will shortly introduce the D6 communicator application. Kindly ensure that the school has your correct email and cell phone contact details so that you can receive the correct information as to how to use the D6 application.

Also be informed that our brand-new Andrew Rabie website is under construction and will soon go live on the internet. The website will be a user-friendly portal on which you will be able to find all new and important news and information about the school.

Discipline

We would like to thank you as parents for your co-operation with regards to the improvement in the overall appearance of our learners. Although the new one-month cell phone rule was greeted with strong animosity by some parents, we are pleased to report a significant improvement in discipline after cell phones have been eliminated from use during school hours.

There is most certainly a huge reduction in the use of cell phones by learners on the school premises. We count on the support of our parents since the primary task of instilling discipline in our children remains the responsibility of the parent or guardian at home. Please be reminded that learners are required to wear their summer uniform during term four.

School Finances

Please note that parents have a statutory obligation with regards to school fees. We are nearing the end of the year and a considerable amount of school fees are still outstanding. A lot of urgent maintenance work need to be done on the school building which will be a huge expense to the school. We hope that parents will view the payment of school fees as an investment in their
child’s future.

Please note that fees outstanding for more than 90 days will be handed over for collection in terms of section 40 of the SA School’s Act. Accounts are issued monthly. The account will reflect the amount (still) payable for the entire year. Parents should however, not wait for accounts to be sent, but continue to make monthly payments in the meantime in order to avoid accounts in arrears.

School banking details are as follows:

Bank : ABSA
Account number : 1400390130
Branch Code : 632005

Raffle Competition Fundraiser

To raise much needed funds for the school we introduced the raffle booklet competition. It was hoped that all learners and parents would support this effort, however it has been very disappointing to report that we have only received about 35% of the booklets up to now. As a
result, we are compelled to postpone the draw date to the end of term 4, to allow learners and parents more time to raise the required funds. We sincerely hope and trust that parents and learners will make a concerted effort to support this obligatory fund-raising effort.

Grade 12 Spring School

Our grade 12 results are a major source of concern at this stage. Some of our learners' attitude and mind-set towards their schoolwork leave much to be desired. In a last-ditch effort to try and help struggling learners we decided to have a spring school during the September holiday. These classes are compulsory for learners who have failed the September exams or who have failed
one or more subjects.

The timetable for the Spring school classes are as follows:

Monday 3rd Oct - Wednesday 5th Oct.
08:00- 13:00.
2 Sessions per day:
S1 08:00-10:30
S2 11:00-13:30
Monday: Group B(S1) and Group A(S2)
Tuesday: Group D(S1) and Physical Sciences/Business Studies(S2)
Wednesday: Afrikaans(S1) and English(S2)

Your co-operation in all the above will be sincerely appreciated.

We look forward to a very busy and demanding last term.

Yours in education
H. DE VOS
